Chiesa di S.Michele

083 chiesa s michele

Edificio sacro dalle proporzioni linearmente essenziali.

Simple building, built in essential and straight proportions. Today’s structure dates from XVI century, with the characteristic prothyrus built as a shelter for travelers, which introduces to the simple square hall and the octagonal apse. The ancient church was probably built in early Christian time (if not even older) next to the roman military road still partly visible north of the church. It was an ancient route along the hills north of Belluno that used to go from Ponte nelle Alpi, climbing up to San Liberale, passing through Col di Roanza, Vaus and the narrow bridge of “Pont de la Mortìs”, arriving to Bolzano Bellunese and Val Cordevole.
