Villa Fulcis-Montalban

093 villa fulcis montalban

Best example in Belluno of a noble villa from the early XVII century, it was built by Pietro Fulcis. The role of his family, and its wealth, kept growing in the next century, as testified by the some large fresco Maltese crosses painted on the façade after 1702, when another Pietro Fulcis became a Knight of Malta and the Maltese crosses were added around the Fulcis coat of arms. During the Napoleonic years the villa hosted General Massena, Viceroy Eugéne in 1809 and King Vittorio Emanuele III in 1903. It was deeply damaged during the Austrian invasion of 1917-18 in world war I.
