Chiesa di S.Liberale

087 chiesa s liberale

Originally dedicated to St. Daniel, the church changed its principal dedication to Saint Liberale (a cult that arrived from Treviso in the XIII century) at the beginning of XIX century thanks to the priest don Sebastiano Barozzi, an active political activist who joked with the double meaning of “liberal”. Originally the little mountain church had a rare floor plan in the shape of a Greek cross, with a crypt under the raised apse, an architectural element which dates around VII-VIII century. Two fragments of a IX century pluteus testify also a Carolingian phase. Subsequent alterations have since been made to the structure but without altering it excessively. Inside there are pieces of fresco from the XV and XVI centuries and wooden altars and paintings from the early XVII century.
